The message will automatically go away after 15 minutes or after the update process is complete. If, however, you’re stuck with this message, then you’ll have to get rid of the message manually.
Fixing the ‘Another Update in Progress’ Error in WordPress
If you’re having trouble with the second issue with updating in progress, you’ll need to remove the core_updater.lock file from the WordPress database. The most efficient method to accomplish this is to use phpMyAdmin.
NOTE: Before you modify your database or WordPress themes, it’s always a great idea to make a complete backup of your website.
The first step is to sign in to the cPanel dashboard for the WordPress hosting account.
Go to the section ‘Databases’ and then click on the ‘phpMyAdmin’ icon. If you do not see a phpMyAdmin option on your hosting account, you should call the support department of your hosting company to get assistance.
It will open the phpMyAdmin, and you must choose the WordPress database. When you click on the database, it will show the tables within the database.
After that, click the ‘Browse’ link right next to your WordPress table of options (wp_options).
This will bring up all the rows in the table of options.
Locate the row that has the name core_updater.lock. Click on the delete button beside it.
Then, phpMyAdmin will automatically delete the row from your database.
