About Hostinger

Hostinger logo

Hostinger International, Ltd. is a web hosting and domain registrar based in Kaunas, Lithuania (a European country). It was founded in 2004, at which time it was still called Hosting Media. Its name was changed to Hostinger in 2011 – and as they say, the rest is history.

Hostinger (with its subsidiaries – 000Webhost, Niagahoster, Hosting24, and Weblink) currently has over 29 million users in 178 countries. Its data centers are also found in 6 different locations all over the globe such as the US, UK, Netherlands, Brazil, Singapore, India, and Indonesia. This means that aside from being great for Canadian web hosting, or UK hosting purposes, even people looking for web hosting for New Zealand can work with this provider.

For this review, we’re going to concentrate first on their shared hosting plans. Their other hosting plans (Cloud, VPS, E-mail hosting) will be the topics some other posts.

Pricing

1. Single

For $.80 per month or $9.60 per year, you can get Hostinger’s starter plan and create a basic website with it. While you’re only allowed to host 1 website with it, it comes with a generous 10GB storage space and an even more generous 100GB bandwidth. The package also includes 1 e-mail account. Note, however, that it doesn’t come with a domain name and there’s no free backup service as well.

2. Premium

Hostinger’s Premium plan is currently priced at $2.15 per month or $25.80 year. You can host an unlimited number of websites with this plan and it also comes with unlimited storage space and unlimited bandwidth. You also get unlimited e-mail accounts with this package and a free domain if you choose to pay annually.

Unlike the Single plan, the Premium plan includes weekly backups. Also, compared to Hostinger’s cheapest plan, this package comes with 2 times more processing power and memory.

3. Business

As their top-tier plan, Hostinger’s Business plan costs $3.45 per month or $41.40 per year. Its features include unlimited websites, unlimited storage space, and unlimited bandwidth. The plan also comes with unlimited e-mail accounts, free domain (only for the annual plan), daily backups, and SSL certificate (full-term). As their most powerful plan, it also has 4 times the processing power of their other plans plus more memory.

Here are some things to take note of with regards to Hostinger’s prices:

  • Hostinger’s Single plan is very limited in features. It doesn’t even have a free domain option and a backup service.
  • Keep in mind that only the Premium and Business plans have unlimited bandwidth and free domain option.
  • Note that only the Business package comes with free SSL for the full term of the plan.
  • Your payment options can only be monthly or yearly.
  • Hostinger has 1-click installs for popular platforms like WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, PrestaShop, OpenCart, and more.
  • Hostinger is giving all their plans 99.9% uptime guarantees.

Support

If your site suddenly goes down, you’ll certainly look for help from your hosting company. The fact is, it’s normal to encounter problems and issues with your website every now and then. Fortunately, Hostinger has a lot of support options as your lifelines.

For starters, they have a really good knowledge base of articles. There are also videos for tutorials and guides to make everything easy to follow. Hostinger also has FAQs on their official website to make it easier for their customers to find answers on their own. It’s also a good thing that their topics are segregated into categories for an organized setup.

Hostinger’s main forms of communication and help come in the form of their live chat and intercom services. To access their live chat function, you’ll need to log into your account and chat with them from there (the chat icon is found at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen). Keep in mind that this option is only available for their customers (that’s why you need to be logged in into your account to use it). For non-customers (for inquiries) their support team can be reached by accessing the contact information on their website (through the Contact Us page).

What impressed us with Hostinger’s customer service is that they’re offering multilingual support. This will prove to be useful for people in non-English speaking countries.

Hostinger is also known for its quick responses. Expect about a minute or so for them to get back to you when you reach out to them. That’s not bad – not bad at all.

Pros

1. Great uptime

Hostinger has a strong uptime average. They really can deliver on their 99.9% uptime guarantee, that’s for sure. In fact, they’ve even recorded uptimes of 100% per month. All in all, we can say that they can stay within the range of 99.9% average in a year.

2. Above-average speed

According to statistics, site visitors abandon pages that take longer than 3 seconds to load. Well, you need not worry about this with Hostinger as their site loading speed is really good. This will boost your SEO efforts and ensure higher (better) rankings on search engines. And of course, your site visitors will appreciate fast-loading pages as well.

3. Free website builder

All of Hostinger’s plans get their company website builder. This will make the whole process of putting up a site so much easier and faster. And although there are ready-made templates that you can use, these are still customizable to fit your needs.

4. Money-back guarantee

Hostinger is offering the standard 30-day money-back guarantee as with most hosting companies today. This gives you the chance to check out their services for 30 days and get a full refund when you decide to cancel.

5. Free domain names

Get Hostinger’s Premium or Business plan to be eligible for their free domain (1 year for Premium and full-term for Business). Although this offer is only applicable on annual payments, we still consider it a good thing (a pro) since it’s not something that all web hosting companies have. You’ll save around $10 per year for a free domain name, you know.

6. User-friendly interface

Hostinger has a beginner-friendly dashboard. You’ll easily find everything (e.g. e-mail accounts, domains, billing information, etc.) when you log in to your account.

7. Lots of unlimited features

This is only applicable to Hostinger’s Premium and Business plans (they have unlimited storage, bandwidth, e-mail accounts, etc.).

8. Low price is available

You can get Hostinger’s Single plan for only 80 cents per month. Even if you need to pay for 4 years to qualify for said price, it’s still very VERY cheap. After 4 years, the renewal rate for this plan is $7.99 per month.

9. Payment method options

Should you decide to go for Hostinger, you’ll have lot of payment options to choose from (e.g. Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, Bitcoin, Discover, American Express, Maestro, JCB, etc.).

Cons

1. 4-year lock-in period

As previously mentioned, you’ll only be able to get Hostinger’s $.80 introductory price if you subscribe to their plan for 4 years. While the total amount for their 4-year plan is still extremely cheap, you’ll still be locked into a long-term contract. Remember, they’re only giving you a 30-day money-back guarantee – therefore, canceling after 30 days will make your payment non-refundable.

2. Live chat accessibility

Hostinger’s live chat set up is made to be accessible within your account only. Usually, live chats are found on the web host’s website (and there’s no need for you to login into to your account).

3. hPanel instead of cPanel

Ok, now we’re just talking about terminologies here. Hostinger, in a way, has their own cPanel (control panel) and they’re calling it hPanel. That’s just about it – it’s still your same ol’ account dashboard.

As we’ve said before, Hostinger has a really simple interface – so simple that even beginners will find the whole set up easy to navigate. If you’re an advanced user, however, you’ll probably miss the standard cPanel. It might also take a while to get used to Hostinger’s hPanel.

Conclusion

Yes, yes, yes – we highly recommend Hostinger. They have a very attractive 80 cents per month plan and it’s one of the cheapest (if not the cheapest) plans we’ve seen so far. Sure, you need to stay with Hostinger for 4 years to be eligible for their low-price offer – but so what? What have you got to lose in those 4 years?

Keep in mind that Hostinger has great uptime, speed, and customer support. They also perform well on most of the important aspects of a good web hosting provider.

The con we mentioned about their live chat being available only for customers (via their account) is actually a good thing for their subscribers. Remember, this means their customer support team will have more time for you – their present customers. Non-customers won’t clog up their chatting system, you see? Non-customers or would-be customers can still get in touch with Hostinger through the contact form on their official website. That’s fair enough.

Now, as for Hostinger’s hPanel – it really is nothing to be concerned about. It’s made to be user-friendly so that beginners and advanced users can easily learn how it works. First-time users might even find the hPanel easier to use than the standard cPanel – that’s how simple it is, really.

And so, if you’re considering getting Hostinger as your hosting provider, we say go for it.
